Climate Education Leaders Fellowship - Join Us

The Climate Education Leaders Fellowship (CELF) is an eight-week immersive programme for climate education leaders in Africa. The program combines the knowledge, expertise, and mentorship of seasoned climate change activists, policymakers, researchers, educators, and communicators, to raise the next generation of informed, competent, and prepared climate leaders.
The workshops, mentorship, and live sessions for CELF have been designed to help participants develop the knowledge, skills, and networks they require to become climate education champions and implement climate action initiatives in their communities.


EcoChampions aims to empower and raise 5,000 climate leaders across Africa by 2050.

Programme Overview

Duration:

The Fellowship will run for eight weeks with 2-3 hours dedicated to webinar sessions weekly.

  • Hands-on climate education projects 
  • Personalized feedback & support

 

Eligibility Criteria:

This program is designed for Africans between the ages of 18-30 who: 

  • Reside in Africa  
  • Are passionate about climate action, sustainable development, and environmental education 
  • Would like to spearhead tackling climate change using climate education as a tool. 
  • Can dedicate at least 3 hours a week for the eight-week duration of this program.
  • Is willing and able to carry out at least one climate education project in a community of their choice during the fellowship.

(No environmental experience or a relevant degree is required)

In the programme, participants will:

  • Connect with leaders in the climate change field and get career insights for growth. 
  • Design and run an onsite climate education project in any community of their choice.
  • Engage in online workshops led by experts that will cover topics spanning climate education, creating sustainable change, and leveraging new media for change. 
  • Gain leadership, innovation, and communication skills.  
  • Engage in peer-to-peer break-out sessions and idea exchange. 
  • Be connected with a professional mentor to provide career advice and guidance.

Expectations:

Participants must be able to

  • Commit at least 3 hours per week in the duration of the fellowship between March and May 2024.
  • Attend the onboarding and graduating sessions 
  • Be present for all the sessions 
  • Complete at least one climate-related project in their communities and provide proof e.g photos, posts, and videos 
  • Participate in a dedicated Google Classroom platform where all information and programmes for the fellowship will be shared.
  • Actively participate in all sessions

Proposed Outcomes:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to

  • Identify their role as climate education champions/leaders, and apply the acquired knowledge and skills in their various communities or organisations.
  • Carry out climate education projects individually in their communities or organisations
  • Understand how to create sustainable impact locally and globally.
  • Properly communicate climate change to children and young adults.

Certification:

  • All participants who successfully complete the program and carry out the required project will be awarded a certificate from the fellowship.
  • All participants will be inducted as EcoChampions after successful completion of the fellowship.

 

Duration:

February 24 – April 20, 2024

 

Platforms for Engagement:

  • 100% virtual.
  • Live webinars and discussions will be conducted on Google Meet while fellows in the cohort will be added to a Google Classroom to interact in between sessions and receive information from moderators and instructors.
